What is E-Learning : Definition of ‘E-learning’
E-education means much more than providing information through the internet. E-education encompasses all those things and processes which use electronic medium to present vocational education smoothly.
E-learning is defined as electronically assisted learning and pedagogy, which are functional in nature and are intended to influence the formation of knowledge in the context of learner’s personal experience, practice and knowledge. Information and communication systems, whether networked or not, serve as a special medium for carrying out the education process.
In the context of learning facilities with e-learning, Rosenberg has written in his own words defining
“E-learning refers to the use of Internet technologies that open a variety of avenues by which knowledge and functionality can be increased.”
The term e-education is used as a framework that integrates almost all electronic media (Internet, intranet, extranet, artificial satellite broadcasting, audio/video, interactive television, CD-ROM, etc.) into professional education. It reaches the students in a very interesting manner.
E-education is essentially computer and network enabled transfer of skills and knowledge. E-learning refers to the use of electronic applications and learning processes. Abbreviations such as CBT (computer-based training), IBT (internet-based training) or WBT (web-based training) can be used as synonyms for e-learning.
Through e-education, any student, teacher and others remain connected with each other by exchanging information and ideas. If seen from the point of view of a school, then everyone has more opportunities.

Nature and Features of e-learning
Following are the nature and features of e-learning
(1) The term e-learning or electronic learning is related to this type of learning which compulsorily requires computer services in its editing.
(2) The use of e-learning terminology should be restricted to online learning based on Internet and web technology of computer science.
(3) The concept of e-learning should be considered somewhat broader than that of computer based learning or computer assisted instruction.
(4) The concept of e-learning should be considered somewhat broader than some of the other similar terms like online learning and online education as both of them are solely concerned only with web based learning or learning whereas in e-learning this is not the case. Going beyond the task, the focus is on follow-up work and maintaining the necessary communication and interaction between the teacher and the students.
(5) E-learning or learning should not be considered synonymous with audio-visual learning, distance learning or distance learning. Today, audio-visual, multimedia, technical and distance education programs are heavily dependent on computer-accessible Internet web services, but this does not consider them to be synonymous with e-learning, but as ancillary conditions in e-learning or as sub-systems of e-learning systems. should be recognized.
Modes and Styles of e-learning
Any learning or learning can be given the status of e-learning only if the instruction of the learning material provided therein is provided to the learners using any modern developed electronic medium or equipment such as computer multimedia and mobile. In this type of learning model, as in traditional school education, there is no existence of classroom, school and the living interactive teaching-learning environment found in them. Students are exposed to fully structured and designed e-learning courses and learning materials which they try to adopt independently at their own pace of learning. Many of their learning activities are done online, but they can also take the help of CD ROMs and DVDs as per their requirement in which the desired learning material has been stored in the form of a learning package of appropriate information. The main forms of e-learning are
(i) Asynchronous communication style – In this communication system, the information related to the learning course and the learning experience is sent to the learner by e-mail or it is sent to him in the form of web pages, web people or blogs, wikis and recorded CD ROMs and DVDs. remain available. This type of communication does not require the presence of the teacher and the students together at a particular time. Study materials are already available. It can be used by the students to study at their own pace at any time of their choice. For this task, both the teacher and the learner have to be present on the Internet simultaneously at a particular time to make necessary communication for the completion of the teaching-learning process. As a result, this type of communication provides invaluable opportunities for a teacher to share well with her students any necessary information, learning materials, etc. Wherever the student has any doubt, he can immediately ask his question and get the necessary feedback from the teacher. Teachers can also expect students to answer them online immediately, with the help of questions and assignments, to be fully aware of the learning progress of their students. In this type of communication, due efforts are made to have direct interaction like in traditional classroom teaching.
